OSHA Training


The OSHA Outreach Classroom Training Program is intended for workers covered under the OSH Act. The Occupational Safety and Health Act covers private-sector employers and their employees in the 50 states and certain territories and jurisdictions under federal authority. For this reason, OSHA Outreach Training Program classes must be limited to training conducted within OSHA’s jurisdiction.

While the OSHA Outreach Training Program course is voluntary and does not meet the training requirements contained in any OSHA standard, some states and local jurisdictions have enacted laws mandating outreach training. Additionally, some employers, unions, and various other jurisdictions also require workers to have this training to work on job sites and to fulfill their own

Local Law 196 has many requirements, some are deadlines that have already passed and some are deadlines or requirements that are quickly approaching. The two major requirements of LL 196 are:

  • Workers at certain job sites receive at least 40 hours of safety training
  • Supervisors at certain job sites receive at least 62 hours of safety training

The easiest and most trusted deadlines will be located directly from the NYC DOB, if they’ve communicated anything it will be directly on their site. However, since Local Law 196 first surfaced in 2017 there have been some vital changes to deadlines/requirements.


The Department of Labor (DOL) Outreach Training Program’s purpose is to promote workplace safety and health and to make workers more knowledgeable about workplace hazards and their rights. Outreach training does not fulfill the training requirements found in OSHA standards. Employers are responsible for providing additional training for their workers on specific hazards of their job as noted in many OSHA standards. The OSHA Outreach Training Program was initiated in 1971, and has grown significantly in recent years. The train-the-trainer format expands the reach of the program to increase training availability. Between FY 2012 and FY 2016, more than 3.94 million workers were trained in job hazard recognition and avoidance through the program.


The OSHA Outreach Training Program provides training on the recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of workplace hazards. Outreach classes also provide overview information regarding OSHA, including workers’ rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint.

  • Outreach training is available in languages other than English (Bengali, Hindi, Urdu, Spanish, etc.)

Is This Training OSHA Approved?

Our trainers are authorized by OSHA to conduct this training and upon completion of this course, trainees will receive their Department of Labor (DOL) issued student course completion cards.

Is This Training Department of Building (DOB) Approved?

Our In-class OSHA training meets the minimum requirement of the Department of Building as persuant to Local law 196.

How else can I take this course?

Our instructors are only authorized for classroom delivery of this training. Classroom training is offered both through open enrollment or by employers hosting their own on-site training. You can request a quote for on-site training conducted at your location. Training topics can be customized within the procedures set forth by OSHA.
