40-Hour OSHA/SST Site Safety Training Program for Construction Workers

This package provides training for workers and employers on recognizing, avoiding, abatement, and preventing safety and health hazards in the workplace; in order to meet the Local Law 196 40-hour requirements.

It also includes information regarding workers’ rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint. This course aims to promote safety and health in the workplace and make workers aware of potential hazards on job sites.

As a requirement of Local Law 196 of 2017, the New York City Department of Buildings (NYC DOB) has specific regulations regarding safety on the job site for people working in New York City. Workers at job sites requiring a Construction Superintendent, Site Safety Coordinator, or Site Safety Manager must have a total of 40 hours of safety training.

Training Package Includes:

  • 30-Hour OSHA Training Card
  • 8-Hour Fall Prevention Certificate
  • 2-Hour Drug and Alcohol Awareness Certificate
  • 40 Hour Workers SST Card

In order to work at a New York City job site all construction workers MUST have this training completed. Without an obtaining the 40 Hour Training Card, workers may lose their contracted job.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

Local Law 196 required of workers at job sites that must designate a Construction Superintendent, Site Safety Coordinator or Site Safety Manager.

That is correct Temporary SST, Limited SST and SST Cards have been extended to March 2021. This does not apply to SST Supervisory cards.

Yes, SST supervisory cards are required to be present on-site.

OSHA Cards do not expire. Per LL196 these cards need to be refreshed if older than 5 years old, in order to obtain an SST Card. Once a SST Card is issued, you need not refresh the OSHA card again.

The PE can perform as an SSM as long as they have the SSM certification along with an SST Supervisory Card. All workers at a job site are required to have OSHA education.

A CS would be able to designate a Competent Person (who has an SST Supervisory Card) and indicate it in the logbook.
