Tribune Training Academy offers 10- and 30-hour OSHA-authorized training courses that cover workplace safety and job site hazard reduction. The OSHA Outreach Classroom Training Program is designed for private-sector workers covered under the Occupational Safety and Health Act and those accepted by the Department of Buildings (DOB).

This outreach training is voluntary and does not fulfill standards-based training requirements. However, it does promote a safety culture in the workplace and a hands-on approach to training, such as hazard recognition and avoidance, employer responsibilities, worker safety and health, and how to file complaints. Training topics can be tailored to a specific audience.

Initiated in 1971, the training program has grown to cover millions of workers. Close to four million workers were trained between FY 2012 and FY 2016 alone. OSHA Training for Security Guards is available via several different packages covering various requirements.

Our Security Guard Classes include 8-Hour Pre-Assignment training, which is a New York State requirement for obtaining a security guard registration card. In this course, students get an overview of a security guard’s duties and responsibilities.

We also offer 16-Hour On-the-Job Training, which guards must complete within 90 days of employment, led by instructors certified by the NYS Department of Criminal Justice Services.

The department also requires security guards/officers to complete an 8-Hour Annual In-Service Training Course every year in order to renew their registration. Our course is updated with the latest information to help meet registration renewal requirements.

Tribune Training Academy offers National Safety Council (NSC) Defensive Driving Courses that teach drivers how to prevent collisions and react in a variety of situations. These instructor- led classroom courses cover judgment, behavior, and the importance of proper decision-making, along with potential consequences.

The first defensive driving course was issued by the NSC in 1964. The organization continues to lead in driver safety training. Our defensive driver training courses are led by NSC-Certified instructors. Each one lasts for six hours and includes immediate and post-incident training that applies on and off the job. The proper training can help reduce costs, exposure to liability risks, and fleet insurance premiums.

At Tribune Training Academy, we offer NSC Flagger Training to build your skills as a flagger. Crew members can receive training and certification in four hours. Flaggers learn to provide safe passage for traffic and reduce confusion where road work is ongoing.

The program, required for all novice construction work zone flaggers, meets several federal industry guidelines, including ANSI standard ISEA-107-2015 and the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. It teaches students flagging procedures, proper use of equipment, and how to coordinate traffic movement, and it can also be used as a refresher course for experienced workers. For your convenience, we can arrange to hold the course on-site at your location.
