This step-by-step guide explains how applicants move from Workforce1 contact to training enrollment. It is written to make the process easier to understand for first-time applicants and easier to share for counselors.
Visit or Contact a Workforce1 Career Center
Interested individuals must first connect with a Workforce1 Career Center and speak with a career counselor. The counselor will help determine whether the applicant may be eligible for Workforce1 services and whether training through the ITG program is appropriate.
Complete Workforce1 Eligibility Review
Workforce1 will review the applicant’s employment goals, eligibility, and training needs. If the applicant qualifies, the counselor may recommend training through the Individual Training Grant program.
Select an Approved Training Program
The selected training must be listed on the New York State ETPL. Tribune Security Training Inc. is an ETPL approved provider and offers a program that combines required security guard training with additional fire prevention and Fireguard preparation to strengthen job readiness.
Receive Workforce1 Referral / ITG Approval
Once approved, the participant will receive a referral or authorization to proceed with training. This process is handled by Workforce1, and applicants should stay in contact with their counselor throughout the approval process.
Contact Tribune Security Training Inc. to Schedule Enrollment
Once referred, students should contact Tribune to confirm class availability, training format, and next steps. Tribune offers flexible training formats and helps referred participants move through enrollment smoothly.
Begin Training and Complete the Program
Participants then begin training and complete all required program components. Upon successful completion, they receive the applicable training documents and are prepared for the next step in their career path.
Security guard and fire prevention training designed to strengthen job readiness

The security guard training can be completed online or in person. The fire prevention and Fireguard preparation component is online only.
