State-Required Security Guard Renewal Course

This 8-hour Annual In-Service Training Course is a mandatory requirement by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) for all licensed security guards. It must be completed every year to maintain an active security guard license in New York.

Tribune Training Academy offers in-person sessions weekly at our Queens, NY location, serving security guards from Brooklyn, Bronx, Manhattan, Staten Island, and throughout New York City.

Course Description

This course fulfills the annual in-service training requirement set by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) for licensed security guards. It provides updated content on legal responsibilities, ethics, emergency response, workplace safety, and communication strategies. Training reinforces foundational knowledge and promotes professional growth in the field of private security and concludes with a final written exam to verify knowledge retention across all key learning outcomes.

Who Should Take This Course?

This course is for currently licensed security guards in New York State who have already completed the 8-Hour Pre-Assignment and 16-Hour On-the-Job Training Courses.

If your license is up for renewal or you’ve been instructed to complete your annual training by your employer or NYS, this course fulfills that requirement.

Completion Requirements

  • Attend the full 8 hours of class
  • Pass the written exam with at least 70%

CEU Information

This course qualifies for 0.8 IACET CEUs upon successful completion. CEUs will be awarded after Tribune Training Academy receives full IACET accreditation.

Completion of this training helps meet professional development standards and supports career advancement for licensed security guards.
