Build the foundation for sprinkler supervision

S-12 addresses citywide sprinkler supervision. If your intended assignment includes foam-water sprinkler systems, review the full S-15 route, which includes the sprinkler foundation and the foam-water extension.

What you will learn

Develop the knowledge to recognize equipment, interpret findings and use the correct reference before deciding what action is required.

Understand the equipment

Trace water supplies, wet-pipe, dry-pipe, preaction and deluge arrangements. Identify valves, alarms, sprinklers, tanks, pumps, piping supports and identification markings.

Make inspection and reporting decisions

Distinguish impairments, deficiencies, notifications, fire-watch precautions, restoration, documentation and the tasks assigned to qualified personnel.

Use the study references

Read inspection, testing and maintenance schedules, qualification columns, conditions and footnotes. Apply them to original practice questions with explanations.
