  4. Basic Fire Safety Knowledge: While not mandatory, prior experience or knowledge in fire safety or building management can be beneficial.

  5. Commitment to Course Completion: Participants should be prepared to engage fully with the course content, including attending live Q&A sessions and completing all assignments and assessments.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be eligible to apply for the FDNY F-03/F-04 Certificate of Fitness examination. Please note that specific application requirements for the FDNY certification exam may include additional criteria, such as providing two forms of identification, at least one of which must be a government-issued photo ID.

  • An FDNY F-01 Impairment Coordinator is responsible for managing and overseeing both planned and unplanned impairments of fire protection systems, ensuring safe and efficient operations during these periods. This role requires notifying building management, occupants, and the fire department promptly when a system is impaired and implementing a fire watch to maintain safety compliance. The coordinator must maintain detailed records of all impairments, including reasons, notification details, and corrective actions.
  • Ensuring safety protocols are enforced, the coordinator supervises the restoration process of systems and confirms full functionality post-repair. In emergencies during an impairment, they coordinate with building management and emergency responders to reduce risks. The coordinator also educates staff on relevant safety measures, ensuring regulatory compliance with FDNY regulations, and collaborates with authorities as needed for comprehensive safety management.

Upon completing the FDNY F-03/F-04 online training course, the next steps to obtain your Certificate of Fitness are as follows:

  1. Review Study Materials: Thoroughly study the F-03/F-04 Notice of Exam and Study Materials provided by the FDNY to prepare for the examination.

  2. Submit Application and Payment: Complete the Certificate of Fitness (COF) application and pay the $25 application fee online before arriving at the FDNY Headquarters.

  3. Schedule and Take the Exam: After submitting your application and payment, schedule an appointment to take the F-01 exam at the FDNY Headquarters, located at 9 MetroTech Center, Brooklyn, NY 11201. Appointments are available Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, except on public holidays.

  4. Receive Your Certificate: If you pass the exam, your Certificate of Fitness will be issued immediately. If you do not pass, you will need to submit a new application, pay the application fee again, and retake the exam.

Please ensure you bring two forms of identification, at least one of which must be a government-issued photo ID, when you go to take the exam.
