The S-95 Certificate of Fitness is authorized to personally supervise the visual inspection of a Fire Alarm Systems without any voice communication system. This Certificate of Fitness is valid only at a specific location and for the specific person to whom it is issued.

he S-95 exam will consist of 35 multiple-choice questions, administered on a “touch screen” computer monitor. It is a time-limit exam. Based on the amount of the questions, you will have 53 minutes to complete the test.

Electrically supervised means, a listed fire alarm control unit is provided at the protected premises to supervise the water supply valves controlling the automatic sprinkler system. NFPA 72 refers to this as a dedicated function fire alarm system.

The following are listed as acceptable means for accomplishing this:
  • Auxiliary fire alarm system.
  • Central station fire alarm system.
  • Proprietary supervising station fire alarm system.
  • Remote supervising station fire alarm system.
A valid fire alarm test certificate ensures that the system has been installed and tested according to industry standards, which helps to ensure that the system will function properly in the event of a fire.
